This team was built one hand-selected relationship at a time. For over 25 years, Dr. Shafie trained oral and maxillofacial surgeons at the largest teaching hospital in the nation's capital, leading a top-ranked post-doctoral implant training program in the United States. Dr. Saltman trained directly under him during residency before joining forces as a surgeon. Dr. Mangine was personally mentored by Dr. Shafie as a Prosthetic Fellow at American Institute of Implant Dentistry (AIID) before joining the team. Together, they bring a shared philosophy, master-level training, and seamless collaboration to every patient's care.

When Dr. Shafie stepped back from his role at the hospital, he wasn't willing to abandon those patients or halt the progress he'd made in the field. He saw it as his responsibility to build a team that could carry his work forward, and take it to the next level.
On the surgical side, Dr. Zach Saltman trained under Dr. Shafie during residency at Washington Hospital Center, standing out among nearly 100 surgeons in training for his empathy, drive, and skill. The two stayed close over the years, an ongoing mentorship that continued well past residency. When Dr. Saltman was ready to build his own practice, Dr. Shafie invited him to establish his practice in the same building as his own.
For prosthetics, Dr. Saltman already knew exactly who belonged on the team. He'd known and worked alongside Dr. Maria Mangine for years through her local dental practice, and recognized in her the same precision, empathy, and refusal to cut corners that defined his own partnership with Dr. Shafie. He introduced her to Dr. Shafie, who agreed immediately that she was the right fit and brought her on as a Fellow at the American Institute of Implant Dentistry. Over years of hands-on training, he passed on everything he'd learned across his career to her as well.
For over 25 years, Dr. Hamid Shafie had trained oral and maxillofacial surgeons at the biggest teaching hospital in the nation's capital, one of the top hospital implant centers in the country. There, he treated some of the most complex and challenging cases, patients no private practice was willing or knew how to take on. He oversaw every phase of care, from reconstructive and implant surgery through final prosthetics, giving him a command of the full scope of implant treatment that few specialists anywhere in the world can claim. Across decades and thousands of patients, he saw firsthand what worked, what didn't, and why. That experience led him to write two best-selling textbooks on the subject and to lecture on his findings around the world.

Dr. Hamid Shafie is an internationally renowned prosthodontist and bestselling author in implant dentistry, as well as a pioneer in combining oral reconstruction with longevity medicine. He serves as President and Chief Knowledge Officer of the American Institute of Implant Dentistry (AIID), a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit think tank dedicated to advancing innovation and education in implant dentistry.
For more than three decades, Dr. Shafie has focused exclusively on implant prosthodontics and full-mouth reconstruction. A leading innovator in same-day teeth, he pioneered TeethXpress® and, drawing on more than 30 years of clinical experience, developed his most recent treatment concept, Vitality Teeth®. He has also developed widely adopted full-mouth implant treatment protocols and authored two textbooks on implant dentistry that are used as references in dental education.

Dr. Saltman is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon subspecialized in dental implant reconstruction and tissue engineering. Graduating from what was the nation's top post-doctoral training program in implant surgery for 25 years, he was the only resident in the history of the implant service chosen by the implant training director to carry on his legacy of excellence after residency and evolve implant treatment to the next level.
